IERE: Programme for Environment and Resource Education

         
         
   
 

IERE is a Cropper Foundation programme in public education for sustainable development launched in 2005.

To:

- Disseminate results of field work and policy analysis undertaken by the Foundation and collaborators by creating and producing learning materials

- Pay special attention to the needs of the formal education system regarding the effective integration of sustainable development into existing curricula.

- Offer learning opportunities to interested individuals and groups within civic society

- Contribute to public discourse and discussion of issues of sustainable development

- Advise on the development of national and regional policies and programmes that relate to education for sustainable development through focused meetings with relevant decision-makers

 
           
           
   
 

The approach to IERE is an enabling one. The intention is to develop capacity and generate awareness on multiple levels.

IERE uses the knowledge gained from the results of completed and ongoing research and analysis to evolve new ways to support the public.

By:

- Using the information and findings of the Millenium Ecosystem Assessment (MA), the Caribbean Sea Ecosystem Assessment (CARSEA), and the Northern Range Assessment (NRA) to create learning materials for students, teachers, partment organisations and the general public - first in English and then in various translations for the non-english speaking Caribbean

- Facilitating discussions related to environment and resource management amongst established organisations and institutions through, for example, focused meetings and seminars

- Providing technical support to these organisations and groups through the sharing of information and learning
